This was the first World Title Fight won with an Uppercut. Corbett And Fitzsimmons fought for the World Heavyweight Title in 1897. Corbett was dominant for most of the fight and knocked Fitzsimmons to the canvas in the sixth round. Fitzsimmons recovered and, though badly cut, rallied from that point on.

Fitzsimmons kept Attacking To The body. The body blows took their toll, and though Corbett continued to outbox his opponent, he started to slow down. Fitzsimmons put Corbett down in the14th round with an uppercut  to the solar plexus, and knocked him out
